Lithograph on paper. Published by Sarony and Co., NY, ca. 1855. The artwork depicts a landscape view of a Japanese Simoda trade harbor with the Mississippi and Powhatan in the background and two of the other non-steam ships in foreground. The bluff from which the drawing was made was named by the Americans in honor of the US ship the Vandalia. From nature by Wilhelm Heine, 1827 to 1885, a German-American artist world traveller and writer as well as an officer during the American Civil War. Titled Simoda from Vandalia Bluff in the bottom middle. White mat, wooden frame. Graphic Art Prints, Historical Collectibles.
