Yoshitora Utagawa, Japanese, circa 1836 to 1882, an antiqiue triptych of ukiyo e color woodblock print on paper, Snowy Morning Outside Sakurada The Battle of the Loyal and Brave Retainers, The Picture of Sakuradamon Incident in 1860. Published by Iseya Kanekichi. Circa: 1862. signed and inscribed with Calligraphy. Compelling depiction of the Sakuradamon Incident, that is the famous assassination of Ii Naosuke, Chief Minister of the Tokugawa shogunate, on March 24, 1860 by a group of ronin samurai of the Mito Domain and Satsuma Domain, outside the Sakurada Gate of Edo Castle. Utagawa Yoshitora was a designer of ukiyo e Japanese woodblock prints and an illustrator of books and newspapers who was active from about 1850 to about 1880. He was born in Edo modern Tokyo.
