In the manner of John Singer Sargent, American, 1856 to 1925, graphite, charcoal, and white chalk on paper painting. This lot is a refined portrait of a gentleman. Signed in the lower left. Dated ca. 1916. Matted and framed. Provenance: originally acquired from an exceptional private collection in Old Westbury, Long Island, New York, known for its distinguished selection of works from American and European artists. John Singer Sargent was an American painter best known for his lushly painted landscapes and realistic portraits of socialites. Sargent studied under Carolus-Duran in Paris, where he was also influenced by the Impressionists Edouard Manet and Claude Monet. Collectible Graphic Art, Portraiture.
