An ancient Egyptian carved limestone scarab. Circa 26th dynasty, 663 to 525 B.C. The well detailed piece features a complex design with a cartouche on the back of the scarab depicting a seated baboon associated with the god of wisdom, Thoth, and a hieroglyphic inscription.
